Why Some Car Enthusiasts Drool Over E85!

E85 is a fuel blend that contains up to 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. One of the main reasons why E85 is loved by car enthusiasts is that it can provide a significant increase in power when compared to traditional gasoline.

The reason for this increase in power is due to the higher octane rating of E85. Octane rating is a measure of a fuel's resistance to detonation, which is the uncontrolled combustion of fuel in the engine. The higher the octane rating, the more resistant the fuel is to detonation.

Because E85 has a higher octane rating than traditional gasoline, it can be used to run higher compression engines, which can generate more power. Additionally, E85 has a higher heat of vaporization than gasoline, which means that it can help to keep the engine cooler and prevent detonation.

However, it's important to note that not all engines are designed to run on E85. In order to run E85 safely and effectively, the engine must be designed to handle the higher ethanol content and be properly tuned to take advantage of the increased octane rating.

Furthermore, E85 can also have a lower energy density than gasoline, which means that it can result in lower fuel economy. This means that while E85 can provide a significant increase in power, it may not be the most cost-effective option for daily driving.

Do You Run E85?

  • Yes.

  • No. I prefer a different fuel.

  • I wish.

E85 is loved by car enthusiasts because it can provide a significant increase in power when compared to traditional gasoline. However, it's important to note that not all engines are designed to run on E85 without a tune, and that it could be the most cost-effective option.
